Do you ever feel like you need to fit a certain “niche”? As if you’re walking through the cafeteria in Mean Girls, and Damian is listing all the different cliques “The Jocks”, “The Plastics”, etc. and you’re like “Where do I go???”
Okay, let’s scratch that. I’ll simply state it as this, whether it’s self imposed or brought upon you by society, it’s about fitting into “the perfect image”. Take me for example, health blogger, vegetarian, gym rat.. Those are 3 very specific “niches” that you can find a whole lot of backing for on Social Media. Think perfectly plated, colourful salads.. Shredded ab selfies (not my reality, lol), and a meal prep fit with macros. I am not a pro in any of those things, nor will I ever pretend to be. Because the truth is, like most people, I am just trying my best. I love health and fitness, I look forward to going to the gym, and I am a devoted vegetarian. But all of these things, although a part of who I am, do not define me. I will always value personal relationships above my time at the gym, or “fitting my macros”.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for everything, and discipline is an amazing quality. I think what it comes down to, what it should ALWAYS come down to, is YOU. What do you want? How do you want to spend your time? What are YOUR goals? Maybe for you, the gym is your top priority, and you know what? I respect that. I think that we should all respect each other when it comes to life choices, how we spend our time, as well as social media and popularity. So long as you are conscious of your health, I trust that you know yourself better than anyone, and that you are doing what’s right for you.
We should all strive to accept our differences, be open to others viewpoints, and be compassionate to other’s unique lives. We are all individuals, and our equation for happiness is different than the next person’s. Go seek out your own truth!
I promote Mindfulness on my blog (.. I mean it is my blog title), but I am by no means perfect. I can be ignorant to the signals around me, stubborn when it comes to achieving what I perceive to be right, but each and every day I am learning and growing and focusing on improving myself mentally, physically and emotionally. I encourage you to do the same.
I have two sides.. Mindfully Miranda, and Mischievous Miranda..
One likes to spend hours in the gym.. And the other one has no problem sitting on her bum for an entire day doing nothing but watching Netflix and YouTube.
One loves to create colourful, veggie filled meals, while the other is perfectly happy eating a greasy veggie burger (yes they do exist) with fries and vegan ice cream.
One constantly strives to make her social media relevant, engaging and inspiring to others looking to lead a healthier lifestyle.. While also balancing her own commitments, jobs, hobbies and family life.
Both are equally important in my identity as a whole person. Both are equally valuable, important and worthy. So I treat both sides, sometimes one more than others, but I still engage with both of them. I need to for my own sanity. And so do you! Don’t feel that because your not “living the fit life” 24/7 that you’re not just as skilled, healthy and fit as the next person who appears to be so due to their Instagram posts. Because I can almost assure you that everyone is just working on their balance, as are you.
Keep on doing you, dollface.
Wishing you above all Health & Happiness
