Is it Monday again already? Sheesh, does time ever seem to fly by! I know that this is totally stereotypical of me, but I cannot believe that it is already October.. I mean I remember what I was doing on the first day of this year as if it were yesterday! Anyways.. that’s only part of the point of “Re-evaluating Things”. Self reflection (aka being mindful) is something that I believe to be extremely important in living authentically, and therefore to be truly healthy and happy, its something that needs to be revisited often.
Having a great body, eating super clean, or getting good grades is great and all.. but is it really worth it if you never stop to take a breath and just think? As this year comes to a close, I’m paying extra attention to the motive that lies behind everything I do, and really in my presentation of how I’m doing these things.
Why am I really working out? As someone passionate about holistic-style health, but also someone who is very active in the Fitness/Health community online, it can be very difficult sometimes to carry that approach with me when I’m constantly seeing how active, driven and successful other individuals are.
Why am I eating these healthy foods? As someone who also (loosely) follows IIFYM, I have to continue to remind myself that food is more than carbs, fats, and proteins; it holds key vitamins, nutrients and energy to sustain life. (This is actually something I don’t seem to have a problem with, what I do with my blog really helps me in that aspect).
What I’ve learned is that comparison is the thief of joy; there is no one on this earth who has your smile, your dedication, your talent, or your quirks (I have many), and so you shouldn’t be comparing yourself to how far along others are with things. Just keep going day in and day out, putting in atleast a little bit of effort each time (it adds up). Try not to get too ahead of yourself (this I am still working on), and focus on making the moments count. You’ve got this.
On another note, we do have a new piece of mindfulness to reflect upon this week!
Holding on to anything is like holding your breath; you will suffocate. The only way to get anything in the physical universe is to let go of it. Let go and it will be yours forever.
Fun Fact: When my Mum was pregnant with me, she was reading a book by Deepak Chopra – I think that explains my whole hippie-ness.. Don’t you?
