2015 has only 2 months left in it.. Even typing that out sounds crazy in my head. This has been one of the best, yet hardest years of my life, and I know that it will forever be ingrained in my memory. As this year comes to a close, I think that it is extremely important for us to reflect upon what all of these months has given us mentally, physically and spiritually.
How have you grown this year? Have you expanded your boundaries? Gone out of your comfort zone? Improved your health / physical fitness? How have you been a kind person?
Its never too late to answer any of these questions (or all of them) before we sign off to the new year. Time is a beautiful thing, but we must not let it constrain us or what we believe that we are capable of doing within it. The time for you to seek out, pursue, and accomplish your hopes, dreams and desires is now. Not Monday, or next week, or next month or next year. Each day is a promise to us, and we have control over what we do with each 24 hours that we are blessed with.
Today, choose to seize the day. As cliché as it sounds, this is one of my favourite quotes – to “Carpe Diem” is to acknowledge the opportunity that you have each day to grow into yourself, to shine light upon the world and to work towards all that it is you desire. You are in control of how you choose to perceive every situation, and happiness is something that you can cultivate if you can see the promise of all that lies before you and hold on to that.
I myself am only just beginning to do so, and although it takes effort, it is worth all that one puts in to it. My advice to you is to let your heart be your guide, and to treat yourself with the utmost respect and kindness. As the Holidays are just around the corner, it becomes so easy for us to simply put our own needs on the “back burner” as we rush from one thing to the next. Take this season of closure to “seal” your commitment to your health, and remember to nourish your mind, body and soul.
Indulge at Holiday parties if your soul craves it, but have a green smoothie the next morning and go for a jog – its all about balance. Allow yourself to enjoy the holiday season, all while remembering that as you nourish your body with healthy, whole foods and exercise regularly, you are doing your part to show up as best as you can for all of whom you love. When you make your health a priority in your life, you inadvertently allow for your loved ones, your job, your hobbies, etc. to be their own priority that you can be a part of.
